Dear Colleagues and Friends:
It is a great pleasure and honor for me to invite you to Yokohama for the 59th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Nephrology (JSN) from June 17 to 19, 2016. I have been involved in the work of the Nephrologist-board committee of JSN for over 15 years. In particular, the Nephrology Seminar for young residents, which I have planned and organized, has been held 21 times over 11 years. This seminar has helped recruit more young members. The number of new board-certified nephrologists has been growing by more than 300 annually. It also helps forge networks of teaching faculty. JSN also runs a career development program beyond gender. Thus, the theme of the 59th Annual Meeting will be "The future-generation Nephrology: Education, Evidence, and Expertise." We would look forward to your participation.
We created a logo to suit this theme. The letters “JSN” are laid out in the shape of a green elephant with three soap bubbles. These bubbles signify the left kidney, right kidney, and transplanted kidney, as well as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and transplantation for end-stage renal disease. These mean chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, and genetic diseases. In addition, these are relevant to internists, pediatricians, and surgeons. Overall, the three soap bubbles represent “Education, Evidence, and Expertise” in the subtitle of this Meeting.
On the afternoon of the second day, June 18 (Saturday), I will be giving the President’s Speech, joined by Guest Speaker, soprano Maki Shimogaki, who will be singing "songs in praise of human life." In addition, there will be a special lecture by the former President of our Society, Kiyoshi Kurokawa, afterwards. We also made arrangements for joint meetings of the Asian Session (JSN-ASN, JSN-ERA/EDTA, JSN-KDIGO), which will be conducted in English according to the plans of the International Committee.
We all hope that you will join us at this event, share some great days of scientific education, and have a chance to take advantage of your visit to enjoy beautiful cities in the heart of Japan.
